Week 2 with GSoC

Hey folks,

Continuing my previous blog, where I shared my initial work on the project with UX research and UI design. I continued to perform some more research about the project and editing my mockups this week. Discussed with the mentors and added one more mockup to the project.

The added mockup displays the user contributions in detail. It displays in the form of Pie , Bar graphs and also displays contributions throughout the year. It is more like github. You can see a mockup and wireframe attached below:

I also requested feedback for the project in wikimedia-I, wikitech-I mailing lists and few other event organizers. Thanks Srishti Sethi and Suchakra Sharma for all the help.

Apart of the project, I also attended Mediawiki Training 2019 held at Jayamahal Palace, Bangalore, India. It is one of the cool workshops I ever attended. I got an opportunity to meet many of the GSoCer’s and my GSoC mentor Srishti Sethi. I am really happy to meet and communicate with all others who are enthusiastically working for the Wikimedia Foundation. I learnt a lot of stuff about different communities, translating wiki’s and using tools, gadgets in Meidaiwiki. I also learnt how to build extensions and made a basic extension. The most interesting part is learning OOUI and OOJS (these two are the UI libraries developed and maintained by Wikimedia Foundation. Thanks to Jayprakash for training us in the workshop.

A pic in the workshop.

Haven’t coded this week, mostly worked with updating the current project requirements and attended Mediawiki Training. I also requested and got access to host tools on toolforge. Currently, moving good according to the schedule.

Thanks.
