I am very happy to share the experience of the social service that I did along with my friends last holidays. It is one of the wonderful experience of my life. The aim of our project is to intensify the interest of mathematics and it’s applications in computer science in students and also explaining the importance of organic farming to the school students. We chose a gurukul school of Vizag for our project. We conducted a three-day workshop as part of the project.
As a pre-work to the workshop, we got permission from the principal of the school to conduct the workshop and installed a few basic software such as scratch and raptor to introduce students to basic programming. We also prepared a few ppt, videos to enhance the understanding of students. I thank my friend satwik who met a forest officer and explained to him about it and got few plants, to make students plant them in an organic manner.
Finally, we started with the presentation. It is so unfortunate that we started our workshop on Sunday ( due to time constraints ), but we were happy to see almost a hundred students attended the workshop. They were very curious and waiting for our workshop. Firstly, we started with the importance of organic farming. We mainly focussed on the differences between conventional and organic methods. We also played a few videos for better understanding.
We ended our first day of the workshop with the demo of how actually to implement organic farming. We also advised them to use organic veggies by growing them at their house.
We begun the second day with planting trees that we got from forest officer, we asked the students to water them daily and grow them in an organic manner so that there might be some veggies useful to the school.
We are so happy that with the students and also thank them as we got a lot of support from them in planting trees. After planting trees, we began with the few basic mathematic implementations in computer science such as finding prime numbers, factorial etc. We implemented them in raptor for better understanding. Most of them are really shocked, seeing the implementations, as they are easy to implement and performing really cool operations.
On the final day, we conducted a career guidance session, as most of the students are in the last year of their school study. They are confused about there way next. They asked us various doubts regarding the career, we were happy that we clarified most of the doubts they asked. We provided a glance at various competitive exams and opportunities that will be useful to them in the coming future.
Finally, at the end of the day, the principal of the school presented us with the momentoes and certificates and thanked us for choosing that school for conducting the workshop.
It was a wonderful experience. I really thank all my friends and mainly my University for including this in our curriculum.
